Gardeners looking to get a jump start on the 2026 growing season can find inspiration this winter at the Port Washington Garden Club’s annual Green Up Your Winter Blues Gardening Seminar, set for Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026.
The daylong seminar will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with check-in beginning at 8:30 a.m. The event will be held at a new in-person location, St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1525 N. Grant St., Port Washington. Lectures and the lunchtime panel discussion will also be available via Zoom.
General registration is $25 and includes three expert-led lectures and a lunchtime garden panel. Optional hands-on workshops are offered in person for an additional fee.
Featured presentations include “Being a Backyard Scientist,” led by Katie Feilen of Miami University (via Zoom), which focuses on asking questions to create positive change in home landscapes. Danielle Bell of Native Roots Design will present “From Turf to Habitat,” exploring how to incorporate native plants into residential landscapes. Jenny San Filippo of Holland Bulb Farms will wrap up the lecture series with “Four Seasons of Flower Bulbs,” highlighting ways to enjoy blooms year-round.
A lunchtime panel discussion will give attendees the opportunity to ask gardening questions and learn from experienced professionals.
Optional workshops include a Pop-Up Cold Frame Workshop ($25), where participants will build a portable cold frame to extend the growing season; Simple Winter Sowing ($10), which teaches low-fuss seed-starting using milk jugs; and Plant ID Apps for 2026 ($8), a hands-on demonstration of plant identification tools for smartphones.
Registration closes Feb. 10, 2026, and payment can be accepted online. All registrants will receive an email with event details and Zoom access information. Lecture sessions will be recorded and available for viewing after the event.
A percentage of each registration will be donated to The Food Pantry, Inc. in Port Washington.
