Port Washington Tourism
Port Washington, with its touch of New England charm, is nestled on the Wisconsin shore of Lake Michigan, just north of Milwaukee. Whether this is your first visit, or you are returning to a favorite harbor town, we invite you to take some time to see all we have to offer.

One of the first things you'll see, coming down the hill to the lake, is the art deco lighthouse. Whether you are boating, fishing, walking on the beach or in any of the lakeside parks, this iconic symbol of the community keeps watch at the end of a half-mile long pier.

Our downtown is lakeside, and offers unique local shopping and dining destinations - all housed in historic storefronts. Explore the history, and our stories, by following a self-guided walking tour, as well as visiting our museums. The 1860 Light Station Museum shares the stories of a lighthouse keeper in the 19th century. The Port Exploreum uses 21st century technology to engage you in local and maritime history, as well as the ecology of Lake Michigan.

The outdoor recreational opportunities are exceptional. The fishing is unsurpassed. Boaters love our certified Clean Marina. Bike, bird, run, or hike on our trails. Paddlesport enthusiasts, even surfers, love launching from our South Beach.

Plan your Lake Michigan vacation with our visitor's resource guide for hotels, bed and breakfasts, shopping, events, farmers markets, lakefront festivals, and more. Once you are here, make sure to stop by the historic Pebble House Visitor Center for more information. And don't forget your camera!

Happy St. Patrick's Day to all of our Irish friends - and today, we are all Irish!

Everybody in the area - please come on out to voice support of the proposed National Marine Sanctuary off our coast! "On Thursday evening, March 16th, our City of Port Washington in conjunction with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) leadership will be hosting our Public Scoping Meeting in the Lakeview Community Room (former Wilson House) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. This is a very important opportunity for us to showcase our strong collective support for the Designation of our proposed Wisconsin-Lake Michigan National Marine Sanctuary. In short, we need to be visible with a strong turnout and a loud unified voice. The public comment period ends on March 31st; please don't miss this chance to offer yours! To that end, in advance of our meeting Thursday evening, you can help in the following ways: * Plan on attending the Public Scoping meeting! * Bring a friend, a family member, a colleague with you! * Help us spread the word! Remember, our Sanctuary will essentially function as an underwater national park, one of only 15 or 16 in the nation, here off our Lake Michigan shores -- what an extraordinary opportunity that presents us with limitless possibilities! We've all worked very hard to get this done, and now we are so very, very close. Please help us with a very positive demonstration of support on Thursday night! Thank you!" http://sanctuaries.noaa.gov/wisconsin/
