The organizers of the Port Washington Maritime Heritage Festival are bringing back the Cardboard Boat Regatta for a second year, and this time with an extra twist.

With a successful first run of the Cardboard Boat Regatta as part of Port Washington Maritime Heritage Festival last year, organizers are preparing to bring the event back — but this year's festival will be more than just a repeat.

While the weekend-long festival will involve a race of cardboard boaters who built their vessels ahead of time on August 18, the next day there "will be an event like nothing before in Port Washington," according to a press release from organizers.

On August 19, teams will assemble in Port with two hours to build a race using supplies provided by the festival and with the intent of successfully floating two participants for a 175-yard course.

For details about both races, see the Port Washington Maritime Heritage Festival website, www.portmaritimefestival.com or call the Port Main Street Offices at (262)268-1132
